Tone Hulbækmo (Norway)
At the Nordic Harp Meeting in Lund in 2008, Tone played lyre and harp, taught Norwegian ballads, and held a musical lecture together with Stein Villa about the long-forgotten Norwegian folk harp tradition.
At this year's NHM in Gjøvik, Tone will tell us how the Renaissance of the Norwegian harp started in the 1980s, when she started to perform music on the instrument built by Sverre Jensen (Oslo), which is a copy of a harp dated to 1681, found in Trøndelag, Norway.
Since her first album in 1983, which was the first recording of a Norwegian folk harp ever, she has developed her own playing style, and new traditions on the harp. She uses the harp and lyre playing music from a broad repertoire: From Middle Ages to our own time, from traditional ballads to modern songs with elements from Norwegian folk music, jazz, classical and ethnical music. Mostly, she sings and accompanies herself on these instruments. Tone has worked as a musician and travelled the world for 25 years, and the harp and lyre have been essential parts of the music she created.
